Welcoming Sushi King, The Summer Mall

About a week ago, four very lucky Sarawak Bloggers including myself were invited to review and celebrate the grand opening of the sixth Sushi Kings’ branch in Sarawak which is located in The Summer Mall, Kota Samarahan. Thanks to Sue Fin, Marketing Executive for Sushi King for her time to read and shortlist ‘My Lens Meets The World’ to be one of the candidate.

A little bit background of Sushi King. Sushi King brand is a subsidiary of a big company called Texchem Group of Companies. The Texchem Group is a well-diversified multinational corporation with operations that span across the ASEAN region and China. Sushi King first opened our doors in 1995, pioneering a new era of Japanese cuisine in Malaysia with our unique ‘Kaiten Sushi’ or ‘Revolving Sushi’ with quick service restaurant concept. Offering a wide variety of sushi along with an expansive menu of other Japanese food at affordable prices in a friendly, cosy environment, we quickly gained popularity to become a favourite amongst locals and foreigners alike.

In Sarawak, Sushi King has been developing its name since 2008.

I was informed during the opening ceremony that Sushi King outlets are not franchises. They are branches. For this new branch, Sushi King is making it as a new platform to introduce some of the new menu and new image of Sushi King. Let me tell you what’s new here:

New and old logo

Noticed that from the attached image above, the “Fish” logo is now smiling and the tagline has been changed from “Healthy Good Taste” to “Smiling, Served Fresh”. When I say fresh, they really served the food fresh. Every Sushi, Tsumami, Temaki or other foods served here have an age limit of 2 to 3 hours before they were disposed. That is how detail and serious this people is when it comes to food. This is what we call Quality Assurance. Another new feature which was introduced in this new branch is the Hot Water tap on every table. Now, you don’t have to bother the waiter/waitress to come and refill your hot tea for you. You can just place your cup on the hot tap and refill it on your own. Isn’t that convenient? 🙂

So, let’s see what are the new menu introduced during the grand opening and food tasting session:

Well, this is a premium dish. Half of the time when eating this dish, I can’t stop my curiosity from resonating inside my head on how do they make this crab to have a soft shell? By the time I’m done eating, I still don’t have the answer. LOL. It tastes surprisingly delicious that I forgot what my question was. Perhaps one of you guys can tell me how it was done.

Tori Karaage Salad. Deep fried boneless chicken nuggets.

And the only debut Western menu promotion served during the session;

They were other served menu that I didn’t have the chance to snap their photos because I enjoyed eating them so much I left my camera to the side. Among the other promotional nutritious menu were Agedashi Tofu, Katsuni, Tako Wakame and the drink of the day, Ice Blackcurrent Vinegar.

Price wise, do not fret! The dishes here are priced accordingly and affordable for all the freshness you deserve. Check this out:

  1. Did they also introduce new items on the menu? Sushi King in Kota Kinabalu kinda sorta lost its charms so now I frequent Sushi Tei a little too often, eep! The latter is a little bit more expensive than Sushi King but you’ll be spoiled for choices and portion wise, you get what you paid for.
