World Animal Groove (WAG) Music Festival 2014

First of all, for those of you who are not familiar with this event, World Animal Groove Music Festival or WAG Music Fest is an event organized by the Sarawak Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) to commemorate the World Animal Day. This year is the 3rd year SSPCA organizing this music festival, taking place from the 24th to 25th October 2014 at Borneo Convention Center Kuching (BCCK). The main event, the World Animal Groove (WAG) Festival took place on Oct 25, 2014 and features an evening of artistes, performers and stand-up comedians from Malaysia, Singapore, USA and Indonesia. Music genres ranging from tradition to country and contemporary fusion tunes.

Thanks to Aliey, I got the chance to enjoy the festival VIP style :). You guys might want to check out her blogsite as well. This is my first time attending WAG Music Fest. Okay, when I mentioned about enjoying the festival VIP style, what I mean is screaming, singing along, dancing, laughing and have fun in a large ballroom with ample tables and sitting sofas for chit-chatting. Not to mention, food and drink counters are lined up next to the entrance. Yup, partying like a superstar!

Here’s the time table and the performers line up:

For those who have been following my blog over the years, you will know that my posts are always full with photos. This wasn’t an exception either. So, let me bring you to where I was and what I’ve seen and enjoy during the festival night:

Third performer: Mel and Joe from Singapore.

By far, this was my favorite band / duo during the event. They brings back so much song down memory lane, including Have You Ever Seen The Rain by Credence Clearwater River (CCR) and a new song by Lady Antebellum – Need You Know. I’m hopping to catch them perform again at the Country Music Festival 2015 which will be held in Miri, Sarawak if I got the chance.

Fourth performer: Bibi Kpoh from Kuala Lumpur.

Bibi Kpoh has been with WAG Music Fest since the first edition back in 2012. She’s just one hell of a Diva. Throughout her show, the only thing I could remember was laughing my arse off, luckily I didn’t laugh till I piss my pants off. She’s a great stand up comedian and a stage performer.

Fifth performer: Jim and the Saucey Soul Band (USA/Indonesia).

This is my first time watching a truly ‘Soul’ performance. I’m really surprised that there is so much more to it then just music and singing. It is like listening to a jazz music shot with Adrenaline. it’s just WOW~!

The sixth and final performer: Hydra Band

This band was the final highlight of the night. Hydra is no newbie in the night life scene in Malaysia. Going through different landscapes and lineup’s the band has matured to be the top of its kind in the country. Doing well loved cover’s of famous music tracks, the band now ventures into its own original materials with their debut – Hujung Mentari which is also featured as the theme son for Malaysian blockbuster movie- Dampak. After taking Phnom Penh, Cambodia and Singapore by storm, Hydra has set its bars and is looking to achieve greater success in time to come. Releasing their debut album Sinergi in August 2014, the band now receives international and local invites for performances both private and large scale festivals.

The members are, Lan – Lead Vocals/ Guitar, G-Beng- Lead Guitar/ Vocal, Jezz- Keyboards/ Vocal, I-Zad- Drums, Boy- Bass Guitar/Vocals and Ari The Man- Sound Engineer.
Have been nominated for several awards such as, Nominated for Best Rock Song VIMA 2014 – Hujung Mentari, Nominated for Best Music Video VIMA – Hujung Mentari, Best Malaysian Vocalist awarded to lead singer Sayed Sahlan – VIMA 2014

Seriously, you guys should check out this festival next year. A leaked info from the organizer, next year they will have the festival for 5 days including the concert day. That is close to A WEEK of event stretch. The first 4 days will be talks, forums, workshops and conferences on anything about animal care. The final day will have tours and the WAG CONCERT!!!. I can’t wait to get my hands on the ticket for next year. If you guys are around, hope to see you guys there.

Cheers~
